An Economic Request Empty An Economic Request

Post by Kingdom of Calabria Sun Jan 24, 2016 1:31 am

The following message as been sent to Montresque, Bezique, Saexenland, Lorraine Cambrai, Huderia, Juttlande, Varasd, Azaq, Judah, and all regions under the jurisdiction of Cybelos:

"On behalf of our Sovereign, Archduke Saverio Russo II, we formally request safe harbor at all ports of call for the furthering of economic abundance between our two nations.  The Calabrian Republic wishes to further civil tranquility, trading of goods, and the flourishing of the Word of Our Lord.  If you wish, you may specify which ports are open for our merchant ships.

We remain,
Your Brothers in Christ,

Viceroy Giovanni Russo, Economic Advisor to the Archduke
Duke Marco Cosenza, Chief Council for Foreign Affairs

Messina, Sicilian Federation, January 23, 1001"

All ports of Cybelos in Europe and in Africa are open to trade goods, naturally.

We are a Catholic nation, however, we would ask that you refrain from spreading your faith in our lands.

Since both our nations are Catholic the furtherance of your faith is the furtherance of ours; so there should be no issue if the merchants of The Calabrian Republic speak The Word, correct?

It is merely our wish that merchantmen will not spread any faith whatsoever, our religious leaders do their jobs well.

We are open to trade, that is what matters in this discussion, no?

Both your merchants and your pilgrims will find safe harbors along the coasts of Judea, for surely a florin will spend as well as a shekel. The Nazorean Guard has begun work to open hospitals within Judea that Christian pilgrims may rest in comfort and safety while in the Holy Land.

I must warn you that, in accordance with King Yitchak I's covenant with Rome, Christians are free to hold and preach their faith but may not proselytize. Priests who do so shall have their vestments confiscated and be expelled from the Holy Land, never to return.

"On behalf of our Sovereign, we formally approve your request for safe harbor at all ports of call for the furthering of economic abundance between our two nations. The Calabrian Republic's wishes are shared with Montresque's own. We only hope to ensure this availability of ports is mutual.

Regards,

The Governance of Montresque

The letter should have made mention that all pilgrims and merchants from any lands are welcome in Calabrian ports, as long as they have good intentions. The courier explains this verbally, as it was an oversight to neglect this from the original letter.

The Kingdom of Juttlande is open and willing to trade with any people under the pretense of fair and just exchange. We ask only that you keep your faith to yourselves, as the Danes are a proud people protected by the Gods of old.

Additionally, should your merchants wish to trade openly in our waters, it would be wise to send for some royal seals, as any ships not displaying the King's mark face the fury of our raiding parties. We shall open the port of Ribe for your merchants.

Calabrian merchant ships will soon reach Ribe. They will have with them an escort from the Archduke's Court, who will seek your King's Seals.

The harbors of Dalmatia in Varasd are open for trade with the Calabrian Republic. Our Kingdom offers secure travel routes towards Ebsotz, through Polska and to the Gepidae Order and the Baltic Sea.

However, in our Kingdom there is tricesima (literally meaning 1/30 tax, but it's 1% actually) on every imported ware, and some of the cities of Varas are "Royal Free Cities", meaning they have the privilege to hold markets, and demand caravans passing through to stop and sell their goods at regular price for a day.
