Firstly, as a beginning to our two people’s relationship, please allow me to congratulate you on your recently acquired crown as Rex Italiae.

Secondly, might I let you know how dangerous what you suggest is.
The title of Imperator is not something to be taken lightly, as I’m sure you understand and appreciate.

There are elements in Constantinople, just as I am sure there are likewise in Milan, who would relish any excuse to claim the title for themselves.

I know your messenger had addressed the letter for my eyes only, but that does not necessarily mean what we both wish it to mean. Wax is not impermeable to a small blade heated by candle, should any man dare to be so bold.

Though, what you suggest does interest me greatly. I have spent my reign attempting to secure my people's place in the world, and establish amicable relationships with the other peoples of the world.

The Bishop of Rome, who blessed you in the name of God, as Rex Italiae, has invited me to talks at the palace at Ravenna.

I invite you as my guest to join us at your convenience; so that we can discuss what you propose further.
I will dispatch another letter to the splendid city of Milan once I have arrived at Ravenna.

I sincerely thank you for the congratulations and open response to my message.

It is for that reason of danger that I employ such measures for privacy especially for matters of such importance. It is not only elements within our own cities which look to style themselves Ruler of the Romans. Those peoples whom once near extinguished our flame and cast us into the dark now look to style themselves as our descendants for their claim to rule.

It has been the mission of Gens Palatinus for centuries to reclaim the Roman's rightful place in the Sun. It is thus we can relate with Eastern Rome's mission as well, the world is different and we must adapt to it.

I will gladly attend this meeting but I have made my intentions clear already and will so again, it is the God-given mission to restore the diarchy of the Roman Empire and return Rome to her former glory, step by step.

My ambitions may seem grand and unattainable, but this has been a mission strategized and schemed to come to fruition for centuries by my people.
