An elderly man sits atop his throne in the High Castle of the kingdom, drifting to sleep. Then, someone dashes into the throne room and past the two guards that stand by the entrance...

"Your highness!" the man says as he takes a bow before the king as another man is ushered into the room in chains, "this man has been charged with preaching about pagan gods. What shall be done with him?"

The king just sat there, thinking of a punishment for this chained pagan teacher. Then, he had an idea: send a letter to Rome asking what to do.

"I know not of how to condemn this man for preaching pagan faith," the king said "send a letter to Rome asking how to deal with pagan teachers. Until we receive a reply from Rome, lock this paganist in the dungeon."

The man who presented the paganist rose to his feet and said, "Yes, your majesty." The man grabbed the paganist's chains and dragged him out of the room.

The king pointed to a young maid who was dusting and said, "You there, write a letter to Rome asking how to deal with paganists."

The maid rushed to her room and began writing the letter. After hours of coming up with what to write, she sent the letter to Rome.

In the northern lands of the Christian Imperium reports of raiders attack and looting coastal towns and villages. Monasteries are especially targeted. The raid parties usually consist of no more than one hundred to one hundred-sixty armed men and women and they have no problem with killing men, women and children that get in their way. The raids are quick, and are usually over by the time local guards arrive.
