Overview

There is nothing more dangerous than a cornered warlike people. The Danes, cornered into the Jutland Peninsula by the ire of the Christianized European mainland, swindled by Christian merchants and failed by their crops, are such a people. For the past three centuries, the Danish warrior society was defined by its highly aggressive nature, but until now, its relations with the rest of the world has been primarily peaceful – defined by the unusual trading reach their superior vessels provided them. Now, internal and external troubles have transformed the prevailing attitude into one of open belligerence and disregard for Christian borders.

In the past, caused by the troubles of the times, the Danes were isolated, insular, and bereft from years of infighting between hundreds of independent, sovereign entities. Ruled by petty chieftains, these local "Jarldoms" sought to expand their lands at the expense of their neighbors - that is, until now. With the situation in dire straights, the Danes have turned to a new leader - King Harald. A powerful chieftain of considerable martial prowess, Harald has united the Jarls of Jutland and formed a new kingdom to test the sands of time.

Perhaps just at the most opportune time, the Jutland population now exceeds the capacity of its lands, forcing the nascent Kingdom of Jutteland to turn to raiding and pillaging for sustenance. This, in combination with the privations forced upon them by their intolerant, pious, Christian neighbours, has forced them to take action. As the Christian world, led by the Papacy in Rome, seeks to eradicate the threat of paganism, the Danes will lead the counterattack. With the help of their infamous longboats, no land is beyond the reach of their lightning raids; the brutal Viking warriors - who fear only an ignominious, shameful death - will return laden with loot, drenched in the salty sea and the blood of their foes...or die trying. The glory of Valhalla awaits!
