The Irish Duchy
Full Name: The United Duchy of Ireland
Government: Hierarchical Monarchy
Capitial City: Dublin
Religion: Paganism/Christianity
Leader: King Sean O'Brien
History: From the tribes scattered across Ireland, everyone wanted to see a united island. For centuries ever since the fall of the Romans, every tribe, which evolved into nationstates, competed to win. In western Ireland is and was the Irish Order of Connaught for their fierce light melee combat methods. In the east, the Irish Duchy of Lenister had some of the best bowmen on the emerald isle. In the north, Viking raids have made the Irish Order of Ulster have made their gallowglasses some of the best heavy infantry. The southern Irish Duchy of Munster have the best experience with cavalry, but lacked war experience due to not being heavily involved in the war. This Irish Unification War went nowhere as borders remained still. This all changed when, in 985, Connaught, now desperate to end the war, sent soldiers south through Munster to flank Lenister. This was a major mistake as the infantry raided every border town they came across. The atrocities were enough of a reason for the king of Munster to declare war on their northwesterly neighbors. While Munster lost the first battle due to a lack of warfare command, they did attract Lenister who offered them a chance to unify Ireland together. In turn, the United Duchy of Ireland was founded and their units became masters of missile cavalry, easily driving out Connaught and eventually their ally Ulster. The year is now 1005 AD and the coastal regions have been unified under their new Irish flag. The emerald isle may see peace once more and may even have a chance against Britain over the strait if they play their cards tight. For now, however, their main focus is what remains of Connaught and Ulster, where their hardy infantry wait in western and central Ireland for the united force of Munster and Lenister to strike.
