Re: Sielburg Palace Court
It has been a long and hard journey for the party. The Alps were not an easy road, and the instability of Sapaudia and Helvetia, the names the Auvergnat uses to call the region, did not help, as all kind of criminals, mercenaries and soldiers were in activity on thoses roads, sometime using the authority of a "noble" to collect "taxes", sometime not even bothering. But the travellers have been lucky and they did not had to deal with unwanted attention, and after days on the roads. They said goodbye to their guide, a local Helvetian that for a couple of coins, accepted to guide them through the mountains.
"It was a pleasure to meet all theses peoples on our way." Declared the Abbot Michel, resting upon his horse, toward his apprentice and assistant, brother Jules, who himself sat upon a donkey. Around them, there was George the Merchantman, also on a donkey as he was not of noble blood but nonetheless important and Daniel, who was at foot with his men, as he was the leader of the five or so guarsmen that escorted the Abbot. There was also some servants and other mules with the provisions and equipments for the journey.
"Is your map completed, my father ?" Asked George.
"Certainly so, now that we know the road is usable, with the political state of the region, and the saying of the locals, we completed the first task our Master gave us. Now, do you see this river ? Once we crossed it, we'll be in the Realm of Sielburg, a much more civilized land than thoses we saw and, with the help of God, one that can see the opportunities we offer to it."
The Abbot seemed joyful to the idea, a state none of his compagnon seemed to share, as for them each step took them a little further from home, in unknown lands, maybe to die there for all they knew.
"How many days before we reach Vienna ?" Asked Brother Jules.
"Maybe a week or so, if the roads are in good state. A good way to see the might of a lord : look at the state of the roads. Unkept roads are sign of a powerless leader." Strangely, both George and Daniel noded, their faces showing they remembered old and unpleasant adventures.
"But it is not now our destination. We're going to the nearest town, to salute the local lord and signal our presence. He might then send a courrier to his Master and maybe, if God want so, an escort. It would be unpolited to appear unannounced and undesired, wouldn't it ? This way we might start the meeting in good conditions which is why I pray God to give us : good conditions and a listening hear for our pleas."
The party did not react to this, they recieved the same order as the Abbot, their chief for the time being, and knew just like him how to conduct tractations. If Michel was chosen as the ambassador of the Duke, it was because of his experience in court's matters and the fact he speak german, among many others languages.
They first stopped to a city, named Innsburk, and did as the Abbot planed. Soon, a few days after, they were before the gate of Vienna, both happy because they did it, and nervous for what was to come.
And so Father Michel, Brother Jules and George were "soon" in the throne's room, while their guards were to wait outside for the meeting to end.
"Greetings, King Tobias !" Saluted Michel in a flawless German, if it was not for his accent. "My men and I come with the salutations and the respects of Berenger, Duke of Auvergne and we pray for your Royal Higness to accords us a few moments of his time, so we can speak to you in the behalf of our Master".

King Tobias III looked at these men, then stood up, sporting a large fur coat. He stood up, politely smiled, and spoke in a deep, booming voice.
"Greetings, my good men! From Auvergne, you say? Ah, you must be from French, and Holy men from the way you dress. I've been informed of your arrival. Welcome! Now, what is it that you would like to speak about?"

"Your Higness, we come with words...and gifts."
Michel made a sign towards some of his assistants, who presented before the king wool roller, jewellry of golds and silvers, Livres bearing the heralds of the Duke and parfume.
"Consider theses things, your Highness, as gifts and proof of the seriousness of my Liege's offer. He has come determined to end this chaos that, as you know, is slowly destroying the realms, one after the other. He has looked upon the Helveti, the land that separate your Realm to ours, and he saw there this anarchy, this injustice that he swore to fight. But he also saw many opportunities and this is the reason he send me today, to you."
"A trade route can be opened. A source of wealth that we help our lands grow stronger. A partnership between your merchants and ours will be profitable for everyone involved. Now, before you ask, your Highness, yes, the war in Helvetia is not favoring commerce, but it is why my Master sent me here and not only traders. There is, in Auvergne, many relics, some of which are of great power and importance for any good christians. Pilgrims come to us from all the county of France and we know how to keep such convoy safe. And this is why this road will also be opened for the Pilgrims desiring to come to our churches. An order of saints protectors can be created, with your help, to protect travellers, pilgrims and traders all the same. If you accept, we can gather support from the monasteries and the Church and make peace triumph ! And in a, we must say, quite lucrative way.
We would understand if your higness needs a few days to make his mind our offer, and we would not consider you less or more if you refused or accepted it. But understand the possibilities it offer to you. We do hope you see the righteousness and the truth of our words when we say, and repeat, that it would benefit you greatly."
Abbot Michel then inclined himself before the King, waiting for his answer.

"You, my friend, make a very generous offer, and a convincing one as well! You honour me with your proposition. I am quite pleased to hear that we may have a friend in Auvergne. I like these ideas. I will begin sending troops to try and fight the Helvetic Kingdom. Perhaps your King will do he same. I will try and take a bit of land, and Auvergne can take some as well. This will join our two Kingdoms, and assure safety on the roads."
"The Order that you speak of, to help maintain the safety of pilgrims, I can help. I can inform my Archbishop, and he will be more than happy to find men who might join. Do all of these ideas appeal to you? Also, what will the order be called?"

Michel The Abbot
"Your Higness ! May God bless your House, as He blessed your people with your guidance ! I am sure the Helvetian will recognize the benefices both our rules will bring to their countries and that it will be the beginning of a long and great friendship between our nations.
As for the Order that will defends thoses roads from bandits and rogues soldiers, We had thought of many possibilities. Of course, we could just name it after a Saint, but would it show the dual nature of it and the fact it will be the Link uniting our nations ? So my Master came with this idea : wouldn't it will be better to give it the protection of two saints, one from our Realm and one from yours ? Or, we could give it a more pragmatic name as some do, suche as the..."Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Sapaudia and Helvetia" ? As you prefer. If you chose so to give it the dual patronage of two saints, know that we already chosen Saint Gerault, for he was a man in a savage century, yet he did all he could to protect the weak and be Just and Fair to his people, valors that are close to our heart.
Now, may you excuse me but I will give orders to my servants to send a letter to my Liege, telling me of your decision and your wisdom. May I be so humble to ask your Highness, if I could stay in your realm as a gage of the seriousness of our partnership and as a middle man between you and my Liege, to be sure contact can be kept ? Of course, If you can't or don't want us to stay more than needed, we would understand and return immediatly to our Realm."

The King once again motioned his hand to Brock, speaking German. Brock nodded his head and walked to the party of men.
"Greetings, gents. I am Brock Gossel, servant to the King of Austria. When you are ready, I'll lead you to your rooms."

And so the ambassadors incline before the King and followed Brock Gossel. At dawn, the same day, a messenger would go, riding a horse, returning to Auvergne with the letter the Abbot gave him.

It's a normal day for you're kingdom, birds are singing flowers are blooming. But suddenly a black bird flies around your court room and lands on the arm of your throne. You would try to shoo it away but noticed a parchment attached to its leg. You take it off and it reads
"To King of this Land,
The High Council and I have agreed that it would be beneficial if our countries worked together against common enemies and developed trade relations. Attach your response to this Raven.

The King was preparing for the upcoming campaign, and was about to leave. However, he decided to read the letter, and decided to respond.Rorukheim wrote:It's a normal day for you're kingdom, birds are singing flowers are blooming. The letter he sent would say:
To Konge Ragnar,
Greetings. I don't know who you are or where you come from, and I'm confused as to why I have received a message from such. Answer those two things, and give me details about your nation, and the location your nation is in. You will have to send the next message to Moravia, where I'll be situated.
Regards,

Weeks go on and you hear no word from Ragnar. You eventually pass it on and continue your war in Bohemia and (that other place I forgotten about) But one day a fimiliar black bird lands nearby you with another note. It reads.....
"To king Tobias,
I'm sorry it's rude of me not to introduce myself, I am Konge Ragnar, or in your language King Ragnar. I am the ruler of a nation far north of you. You may have heard of it. It's called Rorukheim. You see the reason why I sent my message to you is because my priest friend said you could be a great ally. I'm not one to usually ally with christians, but he insist it'll be worth my time. I'll tell you what I have in mind. I request for a Trade/Defense alliance, refuse or not take your pick.

A note would be sent back with the black bird. It reads:
To King Ragnar,
It is nice to meet you. I don't believe I've heard of Rorukheim, but from what you've said in your letters, I believe that you might be Vikings. I wouldn't mind trade, but I don't think it is wise to sign a defense pact with Vikings.
Just a side note - Your "Priest friend", is he a prisoner, or genuinely a friend?
