"One thing that worries me though is the Khanate. Where do the Khan's loyalties lie? Can the pope pay the Khan to invade our lands?"

"The Khanate could present a problem if the Pope tries this, indeed, I would suspect he would try. However, I've had past deals with the Khan and I believe that if we play our cards right he can be of assistance to us."

"I hope so. Anyway, let's get back to our previous discussion. How are we going to do this?"

Re: The Tides of March
"Having the support of the eastern church would be a boon, I believe we can count on that."
"I believe to be seen as a legitimate power we would need vassals that swear fealty and fly our banners."
"Obviously an Empire needs an emperor, the figurehead. But, I can not be expected to cede control of Cybelos to Bithynia, we will remain autonomous, of course."

"I would not expect, nor would I want, for you to cede control of Cybelos. I believe autonomy would be more beneficial."
"As for the church, I believe we can count on their support so long as we make it very clear part of the reason for the formation of the Empire is to protect the Orthodox peoples."

Re: The Tides of March
"How would our nations be represented in the empire? We are to answer to you? Remind me what it is that I am getting from this, Your Highness. I believe I am the one with the most to lose. I have secured my borders, I have created trade routes across Europe, Africa, and the far east, what is to say that this will not be in vain if the west chooses to interfere? I have tried to be tactful with the schism, this will without a doubt show the west where my loyalties lie."

Re: The Tides of March
"Well, for one, we would have our military strength combined. Should we engage in military campaigns we will have more men to work with, and we will be much stronger in that regard. As I have mentioned, it would allow us much greater protection of the Orthodox faith against any actions of the west. I also somewhat doubt that the west would interfere, as they have other things on their minds. We must ask ourselves; Would they rather go after us - Christians like them, albeit different - or the pagans that continue to spread throughout Europe?"
"As for representation, that is a matter I think we should discuss. There are many ways to go about this, and I believe succession would also play a role in this. In Bithynia we tend to put into power those most skilled, rather than those with the most wealth or influence. I think a similar system in the Empire could do us well. An elective system of succession, for instance."

"Perhaps Dukes and above? Whoever gets the most votes would be elected. We could say that to be elected one would have to be at least a count, perhaps a duke."

"I am more concerned with the defense of my kingdom, but I suppose with the stability of our regions we could provide safety for the orthodox christians and perhaps convince the faithful of the west that the orthodoxy is the true faith."
"I am ready, if you both are." "Let us remind the world why the Greeks and the Romans are the greatest civilizations this world has ever seen."

"I suppose we could go with a member from each of dynasties, definitely would keep the number of choices down."
"I am ready, What of you Duke Alexander IV?"

"Then let us make this official. Perikles." Varius said, nodding to Perikles.
Perikles removed from his pouch a scroll, which he unrolled and placed before them. It had upon it a simple message, which said that they would sign into existence this Empire. Varius took a quill pen from the table, and signed his name on the paper.

Alexander IV reads over the paper a few times before he finally signs it.

"Well, we are a mix of Romans and Greeks, so perhaps the 'Greco-Roman Empire.1"
1: Imperium Graecae-Romani in Latin (or at least my best attempt to translate it.)

"Perhaps the Alexandrian Empire if you'd be up for a change of name?
I jest, a fine, powerful, memorable name."
"Let them sing of this day, the Greco-Roman Empire is born."

"No, it wouldn't. Alright, I suppose the Greco-Roman Empire would be an adequate name."
