The Khan and his daughter, Börte, stood in the latter's bedchamber moments before she was scheduled to depart. She was not pleased with her father's arrangement in the slightest.

"I do not want to go, I want to stay here."

She said, reluctantly packing her bags.

"I know you do, but the Khanate lacks any real allies to stave off possible foreign invasion. Our forces are numerous and strong now, perhaps, but that can change very easily and very quickly, and quite frankly, you need a husband."

"I will find a husband when I am good and ready, and I do not need to go to another realm to do so! Make your alliances elsewhere, with others!"

The Khan laughed.

"You have my stubbornness, it seems."

The Khan shook his head.

"You will not find a husband on your own, it would go against the unnatural desires you have for the female sex."

Börte cleared her throat, clearly silenced by her fathers words, and tried to play dumb.

"I- I don't know what you're talking about!"

The Khan laughed again.

"You think I a fool, girl? You think I do not notice the lust-filled eyes you direct toward your own servant, Tsetseg? And do you think I have not noticed how she shares this look when aiming in your direction? I have known for many years of your perversion, since before you first bled."

Börte, clearly shocked and slightly frightened, could not find the courage to say anything as her eyes widened and her jaw dropped. The Khan looked down and slowly approached her, placing his hands on her shoulders, and looked her in the eyes.

"...But, I have chosen to ignore it. Not because I condone it, but because I have seen you and Tsetseg together - and how happy you are when you are with her - and because it makes you happy, I will tolerate it. I may be a Khan, an upholder of the law of Ahura Mazda, the One True God, but I am first and foremost your father, and I want you to be happy. I will not punish you for being happy, all I ask is that you atone for your sins on your deathbed."

Börte didn't say a word, as her father caressed her face and kissed her forehead.

"Now you will go to Varasd, you will take your servant-lover with you, and you will find a husband - a landed husband - to whom you will give as many children as he wishes, and in the midst of the night when you find yourself desiring the loving embrace of your children friend, you will go to her chamber discreetly. You will not make a sound, for if you do you will be caught and you will face severe punishment. I am your father, the Cross-bearers are not, and if they discovered your perversion they will not let it go unpunished, and I will not be in the position to assist you. So be smart, be cautious, and intake your perversion with moderation - do not get greedy - and make sure that the secret of your forbidden love is taken to your grave. Do you understand?"

Again, Börte said nothing, only closing her eyes and shaking her head in acknowledgment. The Khan smiled.

"Good. Now go, the Chancellor is waiting."

Börte gave her father a farewell hug, before departing to meet the Chancellor with her servant and childhood friend - and lover - Tsetseg.
