Re: World News
Emir Harisah: "My thanks to you, Cardinal Daniel. I would be in your debt if you would be so kind as to reach out to King Yitzchak, and alert him of my arrival. Nothing would please me more than to spend my remaining days with my wife and eldest sons in his magnificent city. I will presently return to Floriana to settle my affairs and present my people with their Steward before I embark on the journey to Jerusalem. I am unsure how the news of my Conversion will fair among the imams of Malta, but I am confident there will be no repercussions or undue effects towards Rome, or towards Calabria. We shall soon meet again, Cardinal!" He reached out to embrace Cardinal Daniel....

Re: World News
"Let it be known of the Pope's treachery, his heresy, his sins!"
Bishop Vasilis stood in the town square of Chersonisos, preaching to his fellow Greek Catholics while the non-Christian guards looked on in curiosity.
"Pope Leo VII's mind is shrouded by ignorance, crafted by the will of Satan himself! He spits on the laws of the one true God, of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior... he is no better than the Bogomils!"
The crowd roared at the Bishop's words, angered by the Pope's recent actions.
"...And when confronted with his foolishness, he arrests those who did so - Lysander of Athens and Philo of Pergamon - refusing to believe their truths, and his own wrongfulness! He is ARROGANT, DECADENT, SINFUL, and HERETICAL. He preaches the word of Satan himself, his own lust for absolute power clouding his morals and judgement! Truly the West has fallen from the true word of our Lord, and instead fallen sway to the heresy perpetuated by 'His Holiness'. Heretics have seize Rome, heretics have seized the Papacy, and if they will not recognize their sins and repent, then they are nothing but the tools of Leo the Blind, the Stain of Rome!"
The crowd roared again in agreement, with only a faint sound of booing from those who disagreed.
"...And so the heretics chow themselves even here in Chersonisos! Do not hide among the crowd, cowards, show yourselves and your heretical ways!"
A small group pushed to the front of the crowd, angrily glaring at Bishop Vasilis.
"It is you who preaches heresy! The Pope's word is the word of God, and there is no questioning it! You and all who agree with you are officially excommunicated for your heresies, the Pope himself said so! Your false Christianity will not-"
The small group was interrupted by the crowd, which began to attack the speakers, much to the Bishop's pleasure.
"The words of heretics will not be tolerated in the East, where true Christianity holds strength against the uproots of blasphemy - regardless of whom may rule these lands."
The guards, oddly enough, chose not to intervene, as the small group of hecklers was beaten to the ground by the crowd. They merely watched, and those who could understand Greek listened.
"Indeed it is clear that the Catholic Church has strayed from the true faith, so it is time for a new church to be founded - one that is still true to the teachings of our Lord and Savior, and not to heresy - and so I encourage our fellow Christians in the East to recognize the stain of evil upon the Papacy, and work with us to spread the truth faith of our Lord once more. God's favor no longer rests with the heretical Pope, but instead with the East. It is time we answer his call and break free from the laws of heretics and blasphemers!"
The crowd cheered in agreement.

Kadmus and Damon, two spies working at the behest of the Cybelian Kingdom were celebrating their success in interloping and bringing down some Bogomil village leaders in north. They were making their way through their drinks, joined by some companions once knowledge of their newfound wealth was known. Sounds of a rider galloping through the slop and rain outside was not enough to pull the men's attention from their new friends. The wooden door swung open, the flame of a candle on a nearby table fluttered, but remained. Another seeking shelter from the conditions of Arbanon, nothing unusual. Mud caked on his boots, a tired look in his eyes, no wonder he had stopped, he had obviously been riding for some time. The rider walked over to the two men's table, Damon thinking the man would speak ill to the women on his or his friend's arm, pulled his companion closer and asked the rider what business he had with them. The rider pulled a satchel from his back and brought in to his side, opening it. Kadmus and Damon eyed each other, unsure if the man before them would make a foolish move. The rider pulled a sealed letter from his satchel and simply said "From the capital." and walked out, not answering the men's calls. Damon pulled a dagger from his side and broke the seal, the letter read:
"Master Damon, and Master Kadmus,
"We require your services once again, though this time it shan't be so taxing, perhaps a bit disturbing, that is all. We need you to disguise yourselves as merchants of Venice. You will gather a ship, enough wood for two pyres, and the bodies of two Bogomil heretics, I mentioned it would be disturbing, didn't I?
You will travel to the village of Pescara, and make your ways to the outskirts of the Papal States, construct two pyres and crucify the two Bogomils. When you meet with another agent, Gennadios, he will be transporting two important targets. Once he arrives, light the pyres, leave a message for the Romans to find and take the men with you back to Arbanon. We will be waiting, and you will be payed accordingly. You leave at dawn tomorrow..
-Cybele"
Damon handed the letter to Kadmus, who looked it over. "Well, it gives us some time to get to know our new friends, eh?"
Gennadios
Gennadios, now "Uberto" a fisherman trying to peddle his daily catch in Rome as far as any would be concerned, sailed into Rome, hired a wheeled cart to sell his cover. Once he had established himself he walked into a local tavern, buying off two routiers for an hour, he had them dress as Roman priests. Gennadios would make his way with his routiers towards the jail that held Bishop Lysander and Philo. "Uberto" made his way towards the main guard outside the jail. "Eh, how about you let me and me brothers of God teach these two a lesson?" "Uberto" handed the guard a sack of gold and silvers "Courtesy of the Roman Church, may God let our Pope's soul rest." "Say, I hear there is a fire in one of the warehouses, you should check that out shouldn't you?"

Re: World News
Gennadios and the two routiers made there way down the stone steps toward the cells that held Lysander and Philo. Two more guards sat down here, saw Gennadios and the two priests
"I.. What do you want, who let you down here?" One guard asked. Gennadios took the lead "I've been hired by the fathers here." Gennadios motioned to the two routiers as he spoke.
"We're 'ere to make sure that the Greeks learn the err of their actions, right?" Gennadios handed the two guards a sack of silvers each. "Your captain was investigating a fire in one of the warehouses by the docks. Perhaps you shall investigate yourselves?" One guard nodded to the other and said "Thank you for informing us, I'm sure men of God can watch over these two."
Once the guards were gone Gennadios unlocked Lysander's cell. Lysander moved to the corner, the routiers cracked their necks and one readied his daggers. Gennadios put his hand out to the two mercenaries, causing them to stop. "Take off your priestly robes and take some of the guards armor, you'll stand outside and stand guard, once I am gone, you should leave Rome for a time." The routiers nodded, got changed, and waited outside. "Lysander, I'm here to help." Gennadios said in Greek. Lysander opened his eyes and stopped cowering.
"What? You're serious aren't you? With the pope's death they'll be searching for us if we leave."
-"We've a plan for that, it will throw them off at least until a Pope is declared."
-"I, I suppose we've got no choice..."
-"Good, take these"
Gennadios handed Lysander the priestly vestments, unlocked Philo's cell and handed him the other pair.
"Might I suggest you wear the hoods and keep your heads down?"
Both of the men nodded.
Many of the people when seeing the vestments came up to Lysander and Philo weeping for their dead pope, asking for guidance, but otherwise getting out of Rome was fairly easy for a priest. Gennadios hired three horses and the men rode to the hills. "We've got to make a detour, need to meet with some friends of Cybele. Kadmus and Damon stood in front of two covered pyres. "Everything set?" Gennadios asked of the two men. Both nodded lightly and uncovered the pyres. Lysander nearly fainted. "May God have mercy on their souls." "Bogomils. They've been dead for a while now." Kadmus said. " Still." Lysander said, trailing off. Damon walked over to a nearby wall and painted "Sic semper evello mortem haeretici" 1 "Come, we ride for Pescara, we've got passage for you." Kadmus lit a torch in a nearby brazier, lighted both the pyres and rode off.
When the group arrived back in Arbanon they had their ropes tied down by a group of guards, they moved the gangplank into place, and helped the two bishops off of the boat. They were escorted to a carriage destined for Athens. The same messenger that gave Kadmus and Damon their job papers handed them and Gennadios a sack of silvers. "The Cult of Cybele thanks you, brothers. Now we wait to see if it has worked. In any case, you've earned your rest." "What of Lysander and Philo?" asked Gennadios. "Now. We know better than to ask questions like that once the job is done, yes?"

An excited murmur could be heard in the crowd gathered outside Saint Peter’s Basilica as the fumata bianca wafted out of the chimney. A new pope had been elected. Speculation of who would be elected had been rampant since the death of Papa Leo Septimus, and now the fever grew further worse. The less pious among the crowd had begun forming pools and gambling upon the result of the papal conclave. Soon the curiosities of all of Rome would be satisfied.
“So much gold,” said Daniel. “I was embarrassed enough to wear the fineries of a cardinal’s red, and now I am gilded further.” He turned to look at Cardinal Amos. “It is a strange thing, is it not? That a Christian boy from a Jewish realm should rise to such an office?”
“It is not, Holy Father. You are chosen by God through his movement of the cardinals.”
“Holy Father. I had nearly forgotten I was no longer Daniel. I have been elevated to be something so much more than I once was.”
“Come, Your Holiness. Christendom awaits.”
Cardinal Amos stepped out on to the balcony before his mentor did. He looked down on the crowd, then raised his arms high.
“Habemus papam!” A loud cheer went up at the words announcing the new pope, and, as cued, Papa Basilius Primus, Pope Basil I, stepped out and was presented to the Christian world.

Council of the Patriarchs
With the recent splitting of the Orthodox and Catholic churches, the Orthodox church has begun to organize itself. The Ecumenical Patriarch, Paulus Eutychios, has come up with a simple system by which the Orthodox church shall operate. There shall be a Council, made up of Patriarchs, that shall act as the authority of the faith. The idea of a council was born from the disagreements with the Western Church, and it's single leader. This council would come together to vote on matters of the faith, whether it be disagreements or nations seeking to help spread the faith. The Ecumenical Patriarch shall preside over the council, but will not vote unless there is a tie, in which case he may vote.
Now, Bithynian messengers carry messages to invite other nations to send representatives of the Orthodox faith to join this council. The following nations have received this invitation:
Cybelos
Scilenia
Varasd
Azaq
Judah
Calabria
They are invited to send their chosen representative of the Orthodox faith to Constantinople, where the council shall commune. More nations will likely be invited in the future, so that more people of the Orthodox faith have their representation.

Asia, Libya, Europa, Thracia
The See of Saint Mark is to begin sending missionaries down the Nile River in an attempt to spread word of the true church of God to the Christians of the region and to coerce any not of the faith to convert. The plan is estimated to be a success with the influence of the Greeks in the area and the military advantage they hold over any lords of Libya.
In other news, trade is to be established and maintained with the city of Varna on the coast of the Black Sea, it is the hopes of the kingdom to spread their influence further, a city-state in Thrace being a perfect opportunity to do just that.

New Roman Settlement
Settlers from Scilenia have landed in an unsettled area near the Italian Peninsula. Looking for Luxury Resources, the settlers have found a prefect area. The settlers have started building a new town and port near the sea. The area will be named Vaenova, or land of the old Romans. The settlement will be known as Kathos. Already, citizens have migrated to these new lands, for wealth and opportunity.

THE FALL AND RISE OF THE ORDER
The civil war has brought the Gepidaen Order to an end. The short-lived state, bent on spreading Catholicism through the Baltic region, has fallen after the death of it's first leader.
However, not everything has fallen. The Knight's Order of St. George, has rushed to aid, and reclaim the lands fallen into anarchy. Not everything could be saved, but the 'Saintly Realms', the lands of the Lord Steward, and Riga, have been reclaimed from the rebels.
However, a thousand and a hundred jihadists from Calabria have swiftly arrived as well, establishing an islamic state in a rebel-held territory. They are, however, surrounded on all sides by the Order of St. George, and their survival will only be ensured if they can make allies quickly.
The vikings of Juttlande have taken the island they've raided on their campaign, and Knirfoggsen has conquered Estonia.
The Order of St. George is now the biggest power in the area, led by General Aldwyn of Laibach, with his Second-in-Command Vajk Aba, and Reuben, an adventurer who recently gained the title Count, and the lands surrounding Riga, and the lands of the former Lord Steward of the Gepidae Order.
Currently, Prince Stephan is in Constantinople, but is told to return right after his marriage, to lead his Order to glory - until then, General Aldwyn is ordered to keep order and stabilize the recently gained areas.
The Eastern Steppes
...they came from Asia?
Peasants having reached the West with terrible stories of large groups of horsemen looting entire villages only add to the confusion of those living in the Rus'. Dozens of Slavic tribes appear to have overrun by those from the east. Living in separate camps from their subjects, their new overlords appear to care little about all but the tribute they are forced to hand over. Despite fierce resistance from the local eastern Slavic tribes, these men appear to be scared of nothing but their faith.
These men, with their appearance being very much the same as those from the Azaq Khanate must be Mongols.. yet the question remains; ruled by who or what? Another Khanate or something far more terrifying?
And at the same time, they do not appear to be truly unified. Tales about the warriors fighting between themselves are frequent and common.

The Fall of Alania
The Alans had lived in the plains adjacent to Azaq since before Azaq even existed, and it has enjoyed a relatively peaceful existence. Forever, unbeknownst to the Alans, the Court of Ganbaatar Khan had long been in the stage of conspiring against the people of Alania, in hopes of subjugating them for the glory of the Khanate. Now, with the failure of the attempted invasion of Anatolia in hopes of settling a new home, the Alan tribes have become weakened, leaving them open for invasion from the armies of Ganbaatar Khan and the Azaqden Khanate.
Here come the Mongols...

"Pax Que Omina Superat..."
Since 958 and the call for a "Peace of God" by Etienne II, Bishop of Clairmont, this religious movement as grown stronger every day, finding many partisans in the monasteries and the abbeys all over the country. In 989, the Synod of Charroux decreed a limited "Pax Dei" on the lands of the Church. This practice spread over and became common, especially in Auvergne and Aquitaine.
The "Pax Dei" protect the peasants and the clergy by excommunicating anyone who attacking or robbing them, raiding a church, burning houses, beating the defenseless, the widow, the children and so on. Alternatively, one could circonvent his excommunication by making compensations in money or goods to the victims...and the Church.
While in real life, Guillaume, Duke of Aquitaine was the spearman of the Peace and the one responsible for its quick grow, here, Berenger, Duke of Auvergne, replace him as the authority in the region. Berenger was one of the first noble to swear to uphold the Peace of God upon his realm and convinced many of his vassals and peers to do so as well.
The Peace of God as not yet reached its full potential, as many desmene have yet to join it. The Duchy of Auvergne seem to have took upon itself to put back on the right tracks thoses lost lambs. None can say exactly what this strange conglomerate of promises, ideals, schemes and expectations will give but the first signs are good, as Auvergne is one of the few realm at peace in Francia, with the exception of the Duchies of Austrasia and Tolassot, and clergymen seems to work hand in hand with the nobles to protect the peoples and the serf, slowly restructuring society in a region that all thought was lost after the death of Charlemagne and the division of his Empire.

Norse Raiders Spotted!
Some weeks ago, traders from the northern lands have spotted various ships of size and purpose, traveling to the nearby capital city of Drangavik. Many flags are donned upon these ships. Some hold the Rorukheim flag, while others the Slavic Empire's. From either case, they come with many warriors, donned in heavy armors and carrying weapons.
A few days ago, these said ships were said to have launched from the Capital city, heading West and South. Some through rivers, some through the open sea. Whatever the case, they have found themselves within the Mediterranean sea, many eyes upon them as they plunder various traveling ships filled with traders. They have already attacked various small monasteries along the way to foreign lands. Either by luck or by fate, they have found themselves close to the Auvergne coastline, scanning along it's waters. They don't seem to attack, but their intentions remain unknown. Perhaps by sword or word, battle is thought to be had soon.

An example of castles in the Inlands of Septimania
With the announce of a nordic fleet so close, most of the ports and coastal villages started migrating to the inland regions, taking refuge in castles and forts on the way. Pressed by the lords and the Guilds to act, the Marquis Baldwin gave order to stock the recolts and goods of the peoples in the newly restored dungeons and fortress of Septimania. By the agreement of Carcassonne, the Septimanian traders Guild and the cities gave to the Marquis the loans necessaries for the defense of the Southern Marchs. Coastal towers are now at full capacities and the ports of Montpellier, Narbonne and Agde, among others, saw their ports closed and the Ducal fleet patrolling around them. The Marquis himself is leading the army assembling in Lodève, in case of raids.

Berenger Capillos Longissimos, Dux Arvenii, Rex Francorum
It was a strange ritual that took place this day in Rome. Berenger and his multicolored guards arrived yesterday in the port of Antium and took the road to Rome, all banners deployed. In the Basilica of Saint Praxedes, the Vice-Chancellor Benoit of Aurillac, in the presence of the Cardinals, anointed him and put a new crown, forged in gold and silver, on his head. New artifacts, old titles, as Berenger became officialy Rex Francorum, starting a new dynasty, joigning his family's name next to thoses of the Merovingian, Carolingian and Robertian, despite not sharing any blood with them.
Now legitimate in his claim, Berenger returned to his Realm, in the Gauls. It was a long parade until Clermont, where all the lords loyals to the Duke had been summoned. When he entered the Bright Hall, wearing the Crown, all of his vassals drew their swords and raised them high in the air, acclaming him : "King ! King ! King !" They chanted until Berenger took place on his throne and one by one, they all came to kiss him on the chick and to touch his sword. This way, all the nobles warriors present elected and recognized him as their King. Even the lords of Rouen, Paris and Reims were present and, despite for the last two being officialy just allies with the Duke, they also acclaimed him as their King and Overlord.
But it was not over. Berenger left the Clarus Mons with all of his vassals and took the road to Soisson. There, the Archbishop Etienne crowned another King in the presence of all of the nobility. It was Richard the Wise, son of Berenger. This way, the sucession of the Kingdom was assured and no one would come and contest Richard claim to the crown, since he was already the Overlord of the Gauls.
Like they did for the father, they all came to the son to touch his sword and embrace him. Then, two shields were bring and like the Roman Emperors and the Merovingian Kings, Berenger and Richard were paraded upon them all around the city.
Then, it was finally over. All returned to their land, and now the Grand Duchy of Auvergne became just one region among the Kingdom of France.
Of course, despite their new titles, the Kings weren't the master of all the Franks, nor of all the Gauls. But neither had been the Robertian and the Carolingian. The Gascony, Aquitaine, Britany, Neustria, Normandy, Vermandois, Flanders, Lorraines and Provence still didn't recognized them as their rigthfull leader and still waged wars between themselves. Yet, they ruled undisputed over the regions of Francia, Burgundy, Auvergne and Septimania, which is more control than most of their predecessors had.

Basil I sat in his compartment on board the galley as it made it's way across the Ionian Sea to Apulia. He looked at the scroll of text, the agreement that he had formed with his Greek friend. The salve that would heal the breech in Christendom. More so than any other, this would be his legacy. His promise honored. To heal Christendom. There was knock on his door.
"Yes, my son?" Basil I asked as he opened the door.
"Your Holiness, the captain wishes me to warn you that we seem to have storm coming upon us."
"Upon the Mediterranean? Is he truly concerned?"
"Yes he is."
"Very well. Assure the captain that I have complete faith in his ability to navigate this storm."
Basil maintained a tight grip upon his chair as the ship lurched once more under the force of the storm. The sound of thunder once more, louder, more violent. And shouting, more panicked than before. He steeled himself, made the cross, gripped his scroll and made his way above decks.
There he was greeted by splintering mast and flame. The waters of the Mediterranean spilled over the deck as the sails burned from where lightning had struck them.
"Your Holiness!" called the sailor from before. "Your Holiness, we are losing the ship! We must abandon! We have a boat ready!"
"The boat is small, is it not? Can we truly be safer?" Another crash was heard, followed by new cries from below decks. "What was that?"
"A hull breach! The ship is coming apart! The boat is at least safer than this ship now! Come, Your Holiness! Quickly!" The Pope followed the sailor and began a slow descent to the boat. The ship lurched and his grip on the scroll failed.
"No!" he cried and grasped desperately for it.
"Forget the scroll, Your Holiness! We need to keep you safe!" The sailor below him reached up and grasped the Pope and lowered him to the boat.
"No! That scroll is far more important than any one man, including myself!" Basil desperately searched the water for the scroll. His eyes found it. "There! We must retrieve the scroll! It will repair all that we have broken!" A wave crashed over the boat, spilling the men aboard.
Basil's eye burned as they blinked in the salt water. Which was up? Which was down? Direction had no meaning when so submerged. His body ached. He tried but couldn't move. Even if he knew which way to go, he couldn't get there.
Did I fail you, Lord? Did I misread your will? I thought healing the schism your will. Was it only my hubris? Is this your punishment? It this...
It was not often that the Mediterranean storms, and rarely as violently as it did a few night ago. Debris was still washing up on the Italian coast line. There were treasures to be found, assuredly, and dead. The remnants of a ship broken up in the Ionian sea. Among them, a man dressed in white and gold. A family could eat mightily from what could be taken from the man, if found.

The King Is Dead, Long Live The King
Pharaoh Amyrtaeus I of Aegyptus was found dead today, apparently having passed away in his sleep after ruling for fifty years. The entire nation mourns for his loss. Prince Demetrius will assume the throne immediately to assure the stability of Aegyptus. Some say that Demetrius killed his father, but this is but court intrigue.

Renewal of Aegyptus
Only a few days after his father's funeral processions ended, Demetrius I has abolished the old system and has established a monarchy system similar to those of Europe, declaring himself King and ending the rule of the Pharaohs. He has also declared that all ties with all pagan nations will be cut in the coming time.

Raiders from the North
Raids begin to pick up again as fleets of ships set sail from Scandinavia. Ships filled with raiders, eager for battle and plunder. The fleets can be spotted in multiple areas. While many are see in northern Germania, around the Christian Imperium, others are seen near Stoenia, Mercia, and Wessex. Some are as far south as Rhaimes. Although there has been no word of an raids taking place, that is sure to change soon as more Rorukheimian Drakkar are spotted of the coasts.

Return of the Romans
In the name of the Senatus Populusque Romanus a Declaration has thus been issued by the true Imperator of Western Rome
In the death of the second Emperor of Rome, Marcellus Palatinus Ambrosius, his heir Telestis Palatinus Lucanus had been named the Caeser and Rex Italia by the last of the Romans and with it, as the new ruler claims, a new era has begun. For the first time since before the fall of Romulus Augustus, Mediolanum would be opened to the world. It had been around a century since the last Romans found their opportunity to establish their own state and now was the time for action, growth, and power.
In an address written in Latin, Telestis claimed it was his mission to bring Italia back under Roman wing, and to do so he mustn't allow the last of Western Rome to isolate itself behind her walls but to reopen itself as the old Romans did with the Sabines.
Little is known about what the new Caeser's next moves will be, but the legions of New Rome appear not to be looking south first, but to the north and west to establish a natural border by using the Alps, all know the two places Telestis must address if he is to succeed in his declared mission, to the Pontifex of Rome and to the Emperor at Constantinople... only time will tell.
